Your everyday, as a retro game screen.

DotReco turns the camera into pixel art in real time and lays a game-style HUD — name, level, HP and a message — over the shot. Tap A for a photo, hold it for a video. What you see on screen is exactly what gets saved.

How It Works

Three steps to your first pixel shot

1

Pick a mode

8-Bit Red, Pocket Green or 16-Bit Super. The preview changes instantly.

2

Set up your HUD

Pick a player, then choose which HUD parts to show from the menu.

3

Press A

Tap for a photo, hold to record. It goes straight to your photo library.

Why DotReco

A camera that plays like a game

Pixel art in real time

Every camera frame is turned into chunky dots on the GPU with Metal, at up to 60 fps. What you frame is already pixel art — no filter to apply afterwards.

Three retro modes

8-Bit Red for bold dots in 24 colours with crisp black outlines. Pocket Green for four shades of green. 16-Bit Super for finer dots and richer colour. Switch with one tap.

A game HUD on your footage

Name, level, HP and EXP bars, a message window, stage name, TIME / SCORE, a date stamp and a screen frame — turn each one on or off and mix them freely. Parts are laid out automatically so they never overlap, and the HUD button shows or hides everything in one tap.

Level up while you record

While a video is recording, your level climbs every 10 seconds with a sparkling LEVEL UP!. Add a READY → GO! opening, a typewriter message, or an HP bar that drains to GAME OVER.

What you see is what you save

The HUD is drawn into the same frame as the dots, so photos and videos look exactly like the preview. Tap the A button for a PNG photo, hold it to record a video with sound.

Nothing leaves the phone

DotReco has no networking code, no analytics and no tracking SDKs. Everything is processed on your iPhone and saved only to your own photo library.
